Carl Nagin began performing Flamenco guitar in 1962 when he opened for José Feliciano and Tim Hardin at Café Flamenco in Greenwich Village, NYC. In Spain, he studied under famous guitarists David Serva and Juan del Gastor. Also a prolific writer, Nagin has had work published in Guitar Player, The Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, and East Bay Express. Prior to moving to the Bay Area, he taught writing at the New England Conservatory of Music, and performed Flamenco at the Boston Classical Guitar Society, Harvard University, and Club Passim. In 2003, he and singer Patricia Velásquez launched The Flamenco Room at the Thirsty Bear Brewing Co. in San Francisco where they produced cuadro-style performances with seasoned local artists. It is currently the longest running weekly Flamenco show in the Bay Area.
