Zulu Spear

An iconic World music Dance band, Zulu Spear performs Afro-Pop and South African Roots music, playing traditional mbaqanga rhythms and harmonies using modern electric instruments, percussion, and horns. Zulu Spear has shared the stage with many renowned artists, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The Neville Brothers, Tom Tom Club, Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis, and the Grateful Dead.

Zulu Spear’s current lineup consists of original members—Gideon Bendile on lead vocals, Morgan Nhlapo on vocals, Jerome A. Leonard Sr. on drums and vocals, Ron van Leeuwaarde on guitar and vocals, Matthew Lacques on guitar and vocals—as well as new members Pope Flyne on percussion and vocals, Jennifer Jolly on keys and vocals, Scott “Sven” Vento on keys and trumpet, Patrick Owens on bass, Zack Pitt-Smith on sax and flute, and Adam Beach on sax.
