Iain Matthews Plainsong feat. Andy Roberts: The Songs of Richard Fariña
Tuesday, April 4 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$15 - $18
Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts are making a long overdue West Coast appearance under the Plainsong banner to support their new album, Reinventing Richard: The Songs of Richard Fariña, released in the USA on Omnivore Recordings. They’ll pay homage to Fariña by playing a collection of his songs, as well as a variety of songs from Plainsong’s catalog—including their 1972 classic album, In Search of Amelia Earhart.
Iain Matthews first gained attention as a founding member of and vocalist for Fairport Convention. After parting ways with the group in 1969, Matthews formed Matthews’ Southern Comfort and had a #1 UK hit with Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock.” Never one to stand still for very long, he became a part of Plainsong, an ensemble that allowed him to blossom as a songwriter, acoustic guitarist, and honor the works of Richard Fariña. Plainsong was supported by his ex-Fairport mates, Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson, both in the studio and on tour. Between his own solo projects and Plainsong, Matthews has released a total of 10 albums—all receiving praise and critical acclaim.
