Ray Obiedo & Friends

Saturday, July 1 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Contemporary jazz composer and guitarist Obiedo has had an eclectic musical background during his youth spent in the San Francisco Bay Area. Probably the greatest influence on his embryonic career, however, was the James Brown revue, whose funky, percussive guitar sounds was the platform on which Obiedo built his technique. King Cosby Band feat. Kokomon Clottey

Sunday, July 2 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

In the late 70s, an American promoter heard Kokomon Clottey’s band, Ensroma, playing in a hotel in Accra, Ghana, and brought them to Los Angeles where he thought audiences were ready to hear their exciting West African music. Throughout the 80s, Ensroma played local clubs, developing an African Jazz Rock sound that was musically adventurous and infectiously danceable. In 1990, Kokomon moved to the Bay Area, got married, became involved in nonprofit community activist work, and put his musical career on hold for 25 years. Fast forward to 2012 when Kokomon meets Brett Cosby, a drummer active on the Bay…

Mixing R&B, rock, funk, Motown, and soul with strong blues and gospel vocals, and tossing in ska and reggae rhythms for occasional seasoning, JJ Thames has a powerful stage presence, and more than enough talent to back it up as a songwriter and as a performer. Her story reads like a classic Hollywood biopic, full of early joys, tragic losses, and a seemingly predestined turn to music as a career. Signing with Dechamp Records in 2013, she recorded a debut album with producers Grady Champion and Carole DeAngelis. In 2012, unable to pay even the weekly rent in an extended-stay…
