Hip Bones returns to San Rafael, where the band began in 1993, to celebrate the release of its fifth album, The Moose Lodge Sessions!
Bad long before The Bad Plus, Hip Bones has been called “renegade jazz,” “psychedelic funk,” and “monsters of the mash-up.” The band continues to push the boundaries of jazz on The Moose Lodge Sessions.
Robin Tolleson studied drums with Narada Michael Walden in San Francisco and has recorded with Gregory James, Instruments of Peace, The Secret B-Sides, Big Block Dodge, and others. Gary Schwantes studied woodwinds and composition with Anthony Braxton at Mills College, and has played with Lou Harrison, The Flowing Stream Ensemble, Klezmania, and leads the genre-bending Ultra World X-Tet. Bassist Shannon Hoover, from Greenville, SC, began playing with The Bones in 2008. Shannon has become well-known to music fans in the Southeast through gigs with Bobby Lee Rodgers, Yonrico Scott, Jeff Sipe and others. Jake Wolf is another bassist of renown, through work with The Billy Sea, Peggy Ratusz, Cabo Verde and other popular North Carolina groups.
